JONI VOID (Constellation Records) with BLUNT CHUNKS, HUTCHIE, NPND ( solo ) plus DJ SEE THRU @ This Ain't Hollywood Genre: Experimental Electronic Time : 8pm $8 door Why Should I Go?   This is a really interesting collection of artists (we'd expect no less from Strangewaves...)  Joni Void's  album "Selfless" is an exploration of sounds, feelings and emotions taking and borrowing. From the voyeuristic song Observer that plays with and around a woman's conversation overheard, to Young Werther that melds into and out of rap/hip hop to and from ethereal soundscapes.   Blunt Chunks  (Caitlin Woelfle-O'Brien) weaves vocal and guitar based dreaminess,  NPND  (Jackson of Persons) will be doing a solo set - not sure if it will be the experimental jazz inspired hip hop vibe of Persons, but it should be interesting, and finally  Hutchie  will be weaving together accidental collections of sounds. You can hear them here, then hear them there.

Figure Walking - Feature Interview and Show Video

Image
Feature Artist Interview Tuesday night at the Casbah featured a band from Winnipeg that may have gone unnoticed.  Figure Walking is the lastest incarnation of Greg MacPherson.  Greg was long-listed for the Polaris Prize for his last album Fireball.  With Figure Walking not only has the performance name changed, but Greg along with Drummer Rob Gardiner have taken things in a completely different and exciting direction.  Their just released album "The Big Other" has already received very positives reviews including this one f rom Exclaim and it has been on "heavy rotation" at my place.  I caught up with Greg and Rob before their show at The Casbah for a quick chat.  You can check out the video above.  Stick around (or FF) to videos of a couple of their songs performed at the Casbah a the end of the video. Figure walking's album "The Big Other" is available through disintegration records  The Big Other by Figure Walking
