Corin Raymond @ Artword Artbar - Sat Apr 29

Image
Corin Raymond + Treasa Levasseur & Brian Kobayakawa, Sat Apr 29 Genre:  Folk Singer/Songwriter 8 pm $15. https://www.corinraymond.com/shows Singer/storyteller Corin Raymond will be joined by Hamilton-based keyboardist and songbird Treasa Levasseur, along with upright bassist Brian Kobayakawa, for an entertaining evening of new songs and old. Why Should I Go?  If you don't know Corin or haven't heard of him I can personally vouch for the fact that you will absolutely enjoy this show.  Corin not only writes great songs but also captivates the audience with the (often funny) stories behind his songs. Corin may very well still be celebrating the Juno nomination for his album Hobo Jungle Fever Dreams, as well as sharing some songs as yet unrecorded. “Corin Raymond is a storyteller who by the end of the night you’ll have known your whole life.” – The Globe and Mail.

Greg MacPherson's FIGURE WALKING w Flea Committee, Texas King, Rob Crooks @ The Casbah - May 2 Genre: Canadian Rock Poetry Time: 8pm $10 all ages licensed casbah's event page Why Should I Go? Just go.  Greg MacPherson's new project called Figure Walking has just released the kind of album that should establish him / the band as one of the great Canadian musicians.  If this album doesn't make Greg and this band huge, I give up.  Possibly one of the best this year and probably Greg's next interaction with the Polaris Prize. The Big Other by Figure Walking

WHITE COWBELL OKLAHOMA w FIREBALL GRANT, THE BARREL REJECTS @ Casbah April 20

WHITE COWBELL OKLAHOMA w FIREBALL GRANT, THE BARREL REJECTS @ Casbah April 28 Genre: Rock and Roll  Time: 9pm $10 in advance +surcharge 19+ http://casbahlounge.ca/event_listing/white-cowbell-oklahoma/ Why Should I Go? White Cowbell Oklahoma burn hot and fast.  I'm betting if you go, you won't forget the show.  This is an intense beer drinking, fast driving, blow up the bridge while you're on it, hard rocking chainsaw of a band.  The farthest thing from politically correct, with songs like "put the south in your mouth" which I can only assume refers to bbq?

Lance Eckensweiler @ The Cat and Fiddle Pub - April 28th

Image
Lance Eckensweiler @ The Cat and Fiddle Pub - April 28th Genre: Acoustic Rock, and...one man band Time: 9:30 19+ Cat and Fiddle Website Why Should I Go?   Lance Eckensweiler who records and performs under the name "The Ending To This Story" is a really skilled guitar player and singer and he is exceptionally skilled with a looping pedal, so that even his solo acoustic performances end up sounding like a full band.  The Ending To This Story is in essence a one man band and he has recorded one full length album of original material that bends a bit between acoustic rock and progressive rock.

Pistolettes @ Cat and Fiddle Pub - Every 4th Thursday

Image
The Pistolettes @ Cat and Fiddle Pub Genre: A range from Soul to Rock to Country and Rhythm and Blues - all fun. Time: 10pm no cover 19+ Why Should I Go? Bring together the sassy and outspoken Ginger St James and the feisty and boisterous Mary Simon and you can be sure there'll be some hoot'n hollering from this pair. Either one of these performers can and have commanded the stage with just their own material, but together as the pistolettes with Justine (the bass machine) on bass they reach a whole other level - an entertaining act not to be missed.

Supersuckers @ Absinthe - April 30

Image
Supersuckers @ Absinthe - April 30 Genre:Rock And Roll Time: 9pm $15 19+ http://www.clubabsinthe.ca/event/supersuckers/ Why Should I Go?   It doesn't get any more Rock 'n Roll than the Supersuckers, unless of course they're playing country music, but even then they're rocking harder than a lot of rock bands.  This is irreverent classic rock and roll at it's best, with a live show that rivals the energy and performance level (and guitar solos) of bands like the Allman Brothers.  They've toured with Thin Lizzy and backed up Willie Nelson, if you only see one show this week, this could be the one...

New Love w/ The Honest Heart Collective @ Absinthe April 29th

Image
New Love w/ The Honest Heart Collective @ Absinthe April 29th Genre: Rock Time: 7pm $10 in advance all ages licensed http://www.clubabsinthe.ca/event/new-love-w-the-honest-heart-collective/ Why Should I Go? Local band New Love puts out punchy rock songs with a 90's vibe that remind me of the Gin Blossoms or Better Than Ezra.  The bouncy anthems from their latest EP like Close and Evergreen should make this a fun show especially when pared with the energetic show from Thunder Bay's Honest Heart Collective.  HHC combines the energy of a garage band with sophisticated arrangements and booming singable choruses that reflect rural Canadian .  They just might be your favourite new band.
