Punk Rock Karaoke @ This Ain’t Hollywood

Genre: Um...Punk
Time: 9pm (8pm doors)
$ tbd at the door
Who should go?
Anyone who’s always wanted to be Joey Ramone or any other punk band front man. This travelling show features Greg Hetson (Bad Religion, Circle Jerks), Stan Lee (Dickies), Darren Pfeiffer (Gold Finger, Sum 41) and Steve Solo (adolescents, agent orange) who form a back up band for anyone who wants to get up and sing. There’s a list of songs to choose from, you sign up and...well, you get the idea. In case you don’t get the idea check out this vid
Why should you go?
Come on...who hasn’t wanted to sing in a punk band at least once in your life. But seriously if you’re a fan of punk this is pretty frikkin cool. This show is only hitting up a few select cities in Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton and London) before they head to New York, and Hamilton’s punk heritage probably was a factor so come on out and do Hamilton proud.
About the venue
This Ain’t Hollywood - one of the best rock and roll bars in Canada, and with the best sound guy in the city you’re always guaranteed a good show. The entrance is at the side of the building (look for the patio), great owners, great staff and awesome music. Weeknight shows often start early (8pm usually) so if you have to work in the morning you can still go. Check times on the website to be sure.
I would argue that on any list of "Most Canadian" things to do, skating outdoors on some frozen body of water should definitely be included. From the famous Rideau Canal in Ottawa, to countless frozen ponds from coast to coast, the image of Canadian winters almost always includes an image of someone skating and often playing hockey. Of course this is an image that for many Canadians is simply a romantic ideal and the truth of the matter is that (especially with the mild winter we've been experiencing this year) most skating takes place in a very controlled environment: an arena, a rink, a skating path. I found an exception to this here in Hamilton!
This Week's Hamilton Music Listings It's a bit of a quiet week with the long weekend coming up, but there are still lots of shows to check out.
