What is...What Is Hamilton?
About this edition...and What Is Hamilton
If you're reading this, you've stumbled upon something new...really new. This is the very first edition, and in truth it's not a full edition. If this were a restaurant, we'd call this the "soft opening".
Most likely if you're reading this you probably know me. What is Hamilton is the creation of a passionate team of one right now and over time I'd like to focus on a few things: Live Local Music
I'd like to feature upcoming shows that you might enjoy, but more than just provide a listing, I'd really like to tell you why you might like to go to a show, and give you a sense of what you might expect when you get there. This week our music listings are a work in progress - and they'll flesh out over the next few days, the listing will be updated and each week will see a new list of recommendations. Check out this week's listing hereTheatre
This section will be rolled out in the next week or two. There are lots of live theatre events happening in the city. I wrote about the frost bites festival last year and events like that and fringe will be covered moving forward, but I also want to let you in on other live performances that are less "theatre" such as Hammer City Live (a live comedy and variety show run monthly at Staircase) and other smaller sometimes one-off theatrical performances. In the coming weeks you can look forward to some video and written pieces focused on playwrights and the actors in our community as well.Art
This section will also be rolled out over the coming weeks with a focus on meeting local artists and highlighting upcoming openings. I hope to include discussions with gallery curators to understand how they choose the shows (or individual pieces) for their galleries.Neighbourhoods
We'll be focusing on the local businesses that make our community and the developments that impact it. This week we've got an update on the GO train line and station in Hamilton's North End, the West Harbour Station. Check out that post hereThis is a work in progress to be sure, but I hope to contribute to the arts community and the Hamilton as a whole in some small way. I hope you find this valuable.
